To put this into horrible perspective, Nick Lowe's highest Billboard chart entry (Cruel To Be Kind) peaked at #12 in 1979. Bob Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone peaked at #16. The Clash's London Calling peaked at #5. Lola by The Kinks? #9...

I better triple my daughters daily aural dose of Flaming Lips and Miles Davis for at least a month.

Mariah Carey frightens me -- she's like Madonna on Thorazine. You can't even hate her, she looks too much like Minnie Mouse. Pap like this makes Justin Timberlake look more and more like a credible artist.
Here's a message of hope: My 12-year-old daughter launched herself into the pop universe (after years of being force-fed the Kinks, Elvis Costello, and Dusty Springfield) with a passion for Panic at the Disco and Paramore, two bands I never heard of until somehow they filtered into her consciousness. She wouldn't be caught dead listening to Mariah Carey. Personally I don't know a single person who listens to Mariah Carey.
But then, I'm a Nick Lowe fan, so that shows how much I know...

To think there are millions of prepubescent schoolgirls running around singing "Touch My Body"!! Way to support the perv child molesters of the world, Mariah.
She (and Madonna, etc.) made decent enough mainstream pop music in their heyday (at least not too offensive to the ears), but now their songs just bite the big one and should be confined to gay discos.
