I've got a really annoying song stuck in my head. "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred is the culprit. Can anyone out there help me rid my brain of this aural cancer? Ever happen to you? What did you do?
Thanks, it's driving me mad!

"A musical snob, guilty of snobbery, is a person who adopts the world-view that some people's musical tastes are inherently inferior to others for any one of a variety of reasons."

When I worked in the grocery store, a game we played was sticking someone with a crappy song right at the end of the shift. it was cruel, but fun. The key to getting rid of a bad song is think of another, less vile, song. Drop "too Sexy" for, oh, I don't know, "Have you never been mellow."
It's really a lesser-of-two-evils game. Kinda like voting.
But the surefire way to get out of the rut is to get a shitty song from a band you like -- for me it would be something like "Keep on Loving You" and go with it. Soon you start thinking of other good songs from that band and the next thing you know, you're singing "157 Riverside Avenue."

Great tip! Ty very much, Aaron. I'll give it a go.
If I may quote Garry Mulholland, in his excellent book "This Is Uncool: The 500 Greatest Singles Since Punk and Disco":
"Add this to my own personal Theory One of pop: Everybody has one good single in them. Yes, even me, probably. And it's those one-shots, ignored in the official histories of rock, that make pop the unpredictable, shocking, frighteningly stupid, and stupendously clever spectrum of communication that it is. Though it may be uncool to say so."
So, put aside your Mile Davis and John Prine cd's, roll down the windows and enjoy this very loudly while driving down the freeway. Sing along and make it your own. You'll tire of it soon enough.
Whatcha think about that, pussy cat?
Why, I think you may be on to something there, rumproast old bean!
I tried to blare Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis while cruisin' main street in Red Bluff (where the people are, as Henry Rollins says, are "blue of collar and red of neck"), but they just glared at me. Perhaps they would've preferred In The Navy by the Village People...
