Random Thoughts For The Day

God, I'd almost forgot what a great band Cheap Trick were...the newest one (2006) is really good!

I'm officially "cut off" from buying music for a while. $124 in June was a little much, dontchathink?

My daughter turned 4 and all she wanted for her birthday was a Scooby Doo plush toy and a mixed cd from her old man. Her specific requests were: M. Ward, The Flaming Lips, Jack Johnson and They Might Be Giants. God I love that girl...

REALLY looking forward to the new Mercury Rev CD...

Why Is it that most of Nick Lowe's albums are all out of print and unavailable while faux pop "idols" rule the charts? WHY, GOD!?!?!?

RED MEAT is one of the funniest (certainly one of the weirdest) cartoon strips of all time!

I hear that Conor Oberst, M Ward and Jim James (from My Morning Jacket) have an entire album's worth of stuff in the can. No release date yet, no album details yet, but I'll keep an eye out for ya...

Why does My Bloody Valentine’s “Loveless” sound so much better under the influence of Tequila?

Perhaps I was a little hard on the flute And no, Philbert, that's not a sexual reference...

Yeah, Cheap Trick will surprise you. Just when you thougth they were down and out, becoming nothin but a nostalgia act, they blow the roof off with something new.
I think "Woke Up With A Monster" and 1996's "Cheap Trick" are especially noteworthy.
Hell, I was listening to "Next Position Please" last night! (That's, supposedly, a 'crap' album, but I don't believe it.)

Sounds like you're raising your girl right, Ian. Keep up the good work. While I can get my girls to regularly request Wilco, the Who, U2 and the Police, they've still discovered "High School Musical" against my best efforts to keep it far, far away from our house.

Yes Matt, they bounce in and out of rotation. I've been on a power pop kind of a kick (Sloan, Big Star, Teenage Fanclub, Fountains Of Wayne, etc) lately and these boys did it extremely well.
Rob, alas, my daughters as well have drunk the purple Kool Aid that is High School Musical, but not in my car...:)

Hey Uncle E,

Didn't know if this would be up your alley or not.

We’re Late For Class here.

We hoped you might like to plug (or POST) our 30th release on your blog. It’s dumb and fun and sure to tick somebody off... and it’s called The Jim Morrison Seance Tapes.

Below is a link for the codes to post any & all of The Jim Morrison Seance Tapes on your blog for free (links, cover, FULL Mp3 player, etc). Your readers might enjoy it and we’d get some free publicity for our free music and free blog. Our folks would love you for it... and we also have pictures of sad-eyed puppies, in case we’re forced to send those, too. Drop us a line so we can add you to our “Bloggers Kind Enough To Promote Us Even Though There's Zilch In It For Them” list. We get almost all our traffic from other bloggers so a link would make all of our collective pants happy.
Thanks, as always.

PRESS RELEASE
July 7, 2008

‘We’re Late For Class’ Jams With Jim Morrison

Via a medium, stoner college jam band We’re Late For Class performed a 14 minute improvisational space jam along with the disembodied voice of Jim Morrison, the late singer of The Doors.

“Why not!?,” said a We’re Late For Class spokesman. “It's cheaper than a living singer, what with classified ads, lodging and alcohol... and besides, you know how lead singers are to deal with.”

It’s entitled The Jim Morrison Seance Tapes and is their 30th. It’s available for free at the band’s blog, http://werelateforclass.blogspot.com

“So you don't think this is just something we slapped together with old recordings and ProTools... (you can hear) the engineer ask Jim for the ‘post-death stuff... the stuff without copyrights,’” the spokesman persisted. “In the end,” he said, ”it went smoother than our Screamin' Jay Hawkins seance.”

The free download also includes a 14 minute instrumental version for those that don’t buy the premise.
